July 2011
Congratulations to Revd Bob Stephens ordained priest on Saturday 2nd July . It was a lovely service and the Bishop spoke about all listening during the service to hear if God is calling us.
Bob answered that call and to see his face and feel his hug after the service was very special.
In all that we do we are serving God but sometimes he calls us to walk a different path to the one we know, take time to listen, take time to be still and in these days of summer make space to take stock of where you are in your walk.
THE DEVILS BEATITUDES
Blessed are those who are too tired, busy or disorganised to meet with their fellow Christians on Sunday each week – they are my best workers.
Blessed are they who enjoy noticing the mannerisms of clergy choir and stewards – I can see their heart is not in it.
Blessed are the Christians who wait to be asked and expect to be thanked – I can use them.
Blessed are the touchy – with a bit of luck they can even stop going to church.
Blessed are they who keep themselves and their time and money to themselves – they are my missionaries.
Blessed are they who claim to love their God at the same time as hating other people – they are mine for ever.
Blessed are they who have no time to pray – they are easy prey to me.
Blessed are you when you read this and think it’s about other people and not about yourself – I’ve got you.
Folks we have so much to share with each other so please send me poems, or snippets you’ve read or books that have made you think or smile and I’m even happy to add a joke or two so what are you waiting for?
Good and gracious God
Grant to our eyes wide horizons
Increase our vision to see
Beyond the obvious and into the depths
Let us walk ways that are new
Where we do not know the destination
Let us journey in joy and hope
Among so many troubles and dangers
Surround us with your protection and peace
May we know that heaven and earth are one
That nothing separates us from you
And your abiding love in Christ Jesus
David Adam

The story of Four People
This is the story of four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done, and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
Dear Cursillistas
Southwell and Nottingham Cursillo have just returned from their 1st retreat. For the occasion we went to Bawtry Hall where our Cursillo weekends are held. It had been 18 months since it was 1st mentioned at the AGM in November 2009. The weekend was based on John 15 v 1- 17 “you are the vine we are the branches “. The session’s and there were 6 in total were based on Cursillo in this Diocese. What are our strengths, what are our weaknesses,
Where are we going, how much does Cursillo mean to us and how does it fit into our lives. The emphasis on the weekend was fellowship, friendship and spirituality which we had in abundance. We even had the pantomime Cinderella - lots of fun and laughter.
Time out with our Lord and with each other proved to be a very worthwhile weekend. If you know anyone who went ask them about the weekend I’m sure they will talk to you about it.
Let’s pray that we go forward in love and faith.
Ultreya June
Readers Corner
Over the weekend a number of people read
The Visit by Adrian Plass all enjoyed this book and it is currently being passed around.
A few weeks ago a friend returned a book she had borrowed over three years ago it was like greeting a lost friend. Do you have books that you have read over and over again, please send some titles in so we too can read and enjoy.
Next year in May we will be holding our 70th
weekend. This is something special and we want to celebrate what Southwell & Nottingham have done, so any ideas for celebration are welcome.
As always get in touch with June or Jan
